Accounts Payable is changing quickly. APPG is conducting this research to better understand the technologies, challenges, priorities, risks, and opportunities affecting AP professionals and their organizations.

What the study covers
- How AP work is organized, staffed, and measured
- Invoice channels and how much processing happens without manual data entry
- Automation maturity and ERP landscape
- Where AI is actually in production, and where practitioners expect it to matter
- Attempted payment fraud and the threats teams worry about most
- Payment methods and the outlook for paper checks
- Priorities, challenges, headcount and technology investment expectations
How the findings will be used
Results will be published in the APPG State of Accounts Payable 2027 report and used to establish annual benchmarks the profession can track over time, including AP automation rate, AI adoption, fraud exposure, and the APPG AP Confidence Index.
This is an opt-in, nonprobability industry study. Results are reported as benchmarks of participating AP professionals rather than population estimates.
